I tend to think of action movies as exuberant morality plays in which good triumphs over evil.
I play Xbox. I have a little boy to look after. I have dogs. You know I have things to do. I would love to be able to sit down and watch something like a movie. I watch my own movies because I have to.
I made two movies before The Police had a hit record: I did Quadrophenia and a film called Radio On.
I love the movies and when I go to see a movie that’s been made from one of my books I know that it isn’t going to be exactly like my novel because a lot of other people have interpreted it. But I also know it has an idea that I’ll like because that idea occurred to me and I spent a year or a year and a half of my life working on it.
I love John Waters. There’s stuff in it that’s beyond the boundaries of my taste but his movies have always been like that.
I like the good feeling movies.
I like all of the mental psychological thriller movies too. I enjoy horror movies across the board.
I feel like I’m a fighter. I’ve fought my whole life to get to where I’m at. I like fight movies. When someone gets knocked down I like to root for him to succeed.
I don’t want to criticize any other designers but I have to say that many of the people involved in this industry – directors and producers – are trying to make their games more like movies. They are longing to make movies rather than making videogames.
I aim for a lifetime full of movies.
